The Light of Her | Monica

Monica

The Light of Her session

Monica came to me for a Light of Her session at a time when her relationship with her body was changing. Perimenopause had brought subtle changes in weight and skin, and the way she saw herself was shifting too.

Starting Point

This was not about creating a polished or perfected version of Monica. We wanted to create photographs that allowed her to see herself differently, with softness and beauty, while acknowledging the body she has now.

Challenge

Monica feels the cold easily, so we had to work with that throughout the session. We planned each photograph while she was wrapped in warm layers, removing them only for the moments we were shooting and keeping her warm again between each image.

There was also a more personal challenge. As her body changed through perimenopause, she was becoming more conscious of the things that felt different. We wanted to create images that felt empowering without asking her to hide or change any of those things.

Shooting Concept

We went to the beach at sunset and spent around two hours together, moving slowly through the landscape and playing with the light, textures and surroundings.

I wanted the photographs to feel poetic and dreamy, with Monica becoming part of the environment rather than standing apart from it. We kept the setting and her clothing in soft, neutral tones, allowing the colours and textures of the beach to become part of the story.

The intention was never to create a makeover, pin up or boudoir aesthetic. Instead, we focused on softness, movement and natural beauty, creating images that felt quiet, honest and connected to the landscape.

Outcome

A collection of quiet, poetic photographs that celebrate Monica as she is now. Images that hold space for change, femininity and the relationship we have with our bodies, without needing to disguise or perfect them.
